With the myriad of software applications, hardware appliances and cloud-based options, there is no longer an excuse to not have your data backed up.  The question to ask is, “what is the least amount of time my users can be down and what is the least amount of data I can afford to lose?”  For many of us, the answer to both questions is “none;” however, that is not always financially feasible. So how do you decide?

At Clear Technologies, we often guide our clients through this decision making process.  By filling out our interactive quick assessment, we hand you the tools to make the most critical decisions when it comes to your data.  Once you have filled out an assessment, our team will analyze your answers and come up with options and providers that meet your unique needs.  Two options we often present to our clients are Cloud Backup and Cloud DR.

Cloud Backup or Backup as a Service (BaaS) protects a client’s data in a provider’s cloud. This method of backup allows a client to recover an object or system back onto on-premise hardware.  This service is often a replacement for tape based backups.  This can also include software or an appliance at a client’s location to speed up the entire backup and restore process, lowering the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).

Cloud DR or Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) protects not only a client’s data but also their business itself.  Cloud DR allows a client to recover an entire IT environment in the cloud.  Servers, storage, networking and software applications are all at the ready if a client encounters a disaster recovery scenario. Clients can quickly migrate production to a Cloud DR service and resume normal business processes without having to wait for things like a weather system to pass, power to be restored or a datacenter to be rebuilt.  Replication is the key to any DR service and Clear has expertise in numerous enterprise-class replication technologies.
